Bernardo Granwehr was unanimously confirmed as the State Ombudsman by both houses of the General Assembly in 2022.
Ombudsman Granwehr has over 20 years of state government experience, including 14 years as Chief of Staff and Legal Counsel for the State Auditor’s Office, during which he served 2 years as Chair of the State Records Commission. Ombudsman Granwehr was also the Regulatory Law Manager for the Iowa Utilities Board for nearly 3 years, where he led a team of 12 attorneys and support staff.
Ombudsman Granwehr was raised in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School. He attended the University of Iowa for his undergraduate studies in economics and received his law degree from Drake University.
